On 27 December 2015 in the early afternoon while enjoying an excellent round of golf with his loving wife of 45 years, John McCrory, brother of one, father of two and grandfather of two, died suddenly. John was a resident of Scottsdale, AZ, originally from Lawton, OK, longtime resident of Pittsburgh, PA, and Hartford, CT.
While John was attending Oklahoma State University as an English major and member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, he found the love of his life, Nancy LeMaster. They were married 22 August 1970 in Tulsa, OK were they started what turned out later in life to be a real passion for training dogs. They started simply with three St. Bernards in Oklahoma City when their daughter Brett was born. During a long stint of root laying in Pittsburgh, PA where their son Paul was born, they raised their family. After their children were gone John and Nancy lived in Hartford, CT before returning west to Scottsdale, AZ where they discovered the joy of agility training with a Beagle and two rescue Dachshund mixes.
John was an honorable American who served in the Army National Guard out of Tulsa, OK for six years. Later in life he watched his son go off to the Submarine Navy where John was given an honorary Submarine qualification card while spending two exciting days underway with his son.
John had a high spirit and the knack to turn any situation into a light joke or off the collar pun that either made you laugh or groan, but it always brought about a smile to anyone within ear shot. If he wasn't playing golf, he was filling his time with other explorations with his family, something he started when his kids were little and continued with his granddaughters.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy McCrory of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Brett McCrory of Pittsburgh, PA; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Chardell McCrory currently of Honolulu, HI; brother, Robert McCrory of Rochester, NY; and his loving granddaughters Sydney and Caden McCrory. His smile, quick quips, bad puns, laugh, and great conversations will be missed by all. With his passion for dogs and the new found love for rescuing them, if you would like, please make a donation in his honor to the "no-kill" animal rescue shelter of your choice or to the SPCA at www.aspca.org.
